Everything was going along fine - I could FTP from my website builder software, my webmail was downloading to Outlook, etc. Then all of a sudden, yesterday, it all stopped. When I try to FTP to the server I get this error message: "FTP error - unable to connect to {IP address} Please make sure the host, username, password and port are set correctly. A connection with the server could not be established."
When I try to download my mail to Outlook, I get the same: Unable to connect to the server.
None of my settings have changed on this end. Anybody have a clue what's going on?

¿Are you using names or IPs?
A few days ago Hostmonster began to change the IP of the servers. So try not to use IPs but names.

Ah, using IP #s, but not with Outlook. That is just set up as mail.mydomainname.com - and it was working fine. This is so weird.
So what name, just type in Hostmonster??

I called HM. Some of their servers are down. This is the second time it's happened to me within the last 4 weeks. There goes the 99.9% uptime....

Name should work ok. For ftp it should be:
ftp.yourdomain.com

Comes out to 99.3% uptime, but we're only 9 days into the month. ;)
99.9% probably isn't realistic for any shared host. Nevertheless, 99%+ is still very good.

Over the last three days I've tried to connect my website every morning before work, A couple times at work, and when I get home. Tonight the first time I tried it wasn't up. I just now finally got through for the first time in two days. I checked last reboot time was 23 minutes ago 99.9% my ass.
I'm due to renew next month. Actually, I had already done the renewal, but last night I canceled it. Not sure what to do now. I hate to move!
over the last couple months there have been quite a few times and I was unable to connect. Damn I hate to move!

It's hard to find a shared host that doesn't reboot often. Unfortunately, when you have hundreds of novice web developers on a single server, resources can get used up in a hurry. If you want to avoid frequent reboots, you'd be much happier with a dedicated server.
