If your current registrar will not unlock your domain name you may have to "bite the bullet" and get a new domain name with hostmonster. I too am having the same problem with a domain name my wife was using from GeoCities. There is a way to get the domain name unlock. Read the info under your CPanel > domain names > transfer. You will have to fill out a form and email it, along with photo ID (driver's license) to your current registrar.

Generally registrars, in particular hosts which provide a free domain name, will lock the domain for a fixed period to 'encourage' you to keep with them. Normally though, you can still point the domain to another provider.
Log into your Hostmoster account and go to 'Parked Domains'
Add the name of your domain held with GISOL
The next bit will be particular to GISOL but basically involves going into wherever your DNS info is held on your GISOL control panel and changing the DNS addresses to match the hostmonster DNS server addresses.
To find what they should be, go to
Cpanel -> domain Manager -> select 'edit public information' for your main domain with hostmonster -> modify name servers
You should be able to keep your 'name only' with the old provider and keep your hosting on hostmonster.
Good luck
PS I haven't done it for a while and I may have got this the wrong way around. You might have to point the hstmoster ons at the GISOL server. Have a try at both and remember to write the old settings down so you ca fix them if you make a mistake.

My time with my previous host was not the issue, I was with them for 4 years. My contract was up, and I wanted to move my domain to a new Host (hostmonster). I signed up with hostmonster 1st, then went back to transfer my domain. I found my cPanal at gisol un-accessable, and my domain locked. Hostmonster says "it can't help me", my registrar (allindomains) say's it can't help me; and gisol WON'T help me. Everyone point there finger at everyone else, and I'm the one who lose's in the long run. I paid for an account with Hostmonster that I can't use, am being held hostage by gisol.

I just did a Google search for GISOL, and it's all negative comments. You can read some of them here:

After reading the link above, it seems to me that your case is not the first, and there isn't much you can do about it. You might be better off getting a new domain and warning everyone else you know about those guys.

Hi
If your domain was a free one from Gisol, I suspect that you will have to email them and request they unlock the domain so you can transfer it. However, it's likely they had already paid the domain rego fee for another year well in advance of your contract expiring and will expect you to pay them the fee for the domain registration before letting you unlock and transfer it.
(I have a registrar who also imposes a $50 fee to break the contract for the registration. Hopefully, this is not the case for you. I think this might be somewhat rare.)
Anyway, you should, at the very least, be able to leave everything as is and simply change your DNS details with the registrar (allindomains) regardless of the locked status. The domain would then be pointed to HostMonster and be fully operational once it has propagated through the internet in 24-48 hours. As owner of the domain name, the registrar should have a way for you to make any changes necessary to keep your domain information up to date as often as needed. It's no skin off the registrars nose where the domain is pointed to, basically. If you go this route you will have to contact gisol AT LEAST 45 days before the domain name would expire next year (maybe 60 days to be safe) and let them know you want to transfer to another registrar.
Hope this might be of some help. These free domains with hosting are a tricky business at best and not for anyone who wishes to have long term use of the name irregardless of who is the webhost, imho.
Best of luck

.........I think I'm gonna just write it off, and learn a lesson from it. I will do everything I can do let everyone know just what a poor excuse of a "customer Friendly" Co. gisol truly is. I just hope the folks at HostMonster will work with me on this one (hint) *wink*

After waiting for 2 weeks for gisol to un-lock my domain name, I finally told them to "kiss off". I didn't lose any $$$$$, because that was never an issue. I contacted the GREAT PEOPLE here at HostMonster, and they tweeked my Domain name, opened a new(er) account, moved all my file's, and I was online in 20 minutes...for 0 xtra dollars out of my pocket. If I knew it would be this easy to get back online, I wouldn't have waited. Thank goodness for the "search and replace" feature in my HTML editor! I have over 800 web pages!!
Thank you HostMonster for making my Life easier..if just for today!
