I'm new to webdesign and I just figured out how to use the page wizard. But before I used the webdesign, I installed wordpress from fantastico and I couldn't replace it. I wanted to replace wordpress because I wasn't looking for a blog template but more of a website template. Now I can't seem to see my page anymore. Can anyone help?

Also, any advice on how to start a forum page?

Oh Jimmy, sounds like you need help.

Did you delete all the files and folders in your root public_html directory to get rid of wordpress? That's fine if you did. You'll just need to put a new index.html in there in order to be able to go to your website. If you whip something up in page wizard just publish it and you should be up and running again. As far as a forum goes, fantastico has a few different forum programs that you can install. Try them out and then just link to the forum from the page you create in pagewizard. Does that make sence?

If you installed wordpress from fantastico, just go back to fantatisco, click on wordpress and it will show you the current installation along with the remove option. That will do the trick.

Wordpress can be used to make simple websites as well. There are some templates that looks like a blog, but at the same time, there are many other templates that look like a neat website, especially with some tweaking. I would still recommend wordpress for a simple website. There might be some learning curve, but it's worth the exchange to make future updating easier.

Thank you for your help. I'll try all your suggestions. I installed joomla. Is wordpress still better?

If you want a website with lots of fancy add-ons and powerful features, Joomla! is the way to go. However, the learning curve is even steeper for Joomla! I had mastered Wordpress before trying Joomla, and it took me days to figure out how to properly put up information, add additional modules and do minor layout customisation. Up to now, I believe that I just merely scratched the surface of Joomla! and there's still a long way to go.

If you're just looking for a simple, no frills website, I think wordpress is more than sufficient for the job. Wordpress.org has plenty of templates for you to choose, and expanding functions of wordpress with plugins are relatively straightforward too.

I did up a website using wordpress. You can take a look at it here (http://aaron-ng.info/kfh). Mainly static information, complete with a feedback form. In the wordpress administration panel, I installed a vistor tracking system to monitor traffic. :)

I just saw your original post on how to start a forum page.

I am currently using SimpleMachines Forum, a freeware forum software. I didn't install from Fantastico because what is there isn't the latest one. I downloaded from Simplemachines.org, unzipped it, FTP to the directory I wanted and then ran the installation.

I administer a forum for my gaming clan, and if you like, you can check it out here (http://chickenriceclan.com/forum).

Hi all

I'm have a series of problem, perhaps as a resulf of wordpress. Here comes the dizzy bit. I can't recall if I used fantastico to install wordpress or not. I may have downloaded it and installed it directly.

I elected to use fantastico to see if it could be used to remove wordpress, but it didn't recognise it has being installed. I then found various articles that suggested that I remove all files and folders prefixed with wp. I then remove other files that were recommended, ensuring that I didn't scrub the index.html page.

Everytime I access www.toner-it.com I get the following error:

Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home7/toneritc/public_html/index.php on line 17

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required './wp-blog-header.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home7/toneritc/public_html/index.php on line 17

I am normally cautious about removing anything manually, but it looks like I have messed with my domain infrastructure. I can URL to www.toner-it.com/index.html ok...so maybe not. I now just need to figure out how I can get www.toner-it.com to bring up index.html by default.

If I rename index.html to index.php, it works. It seems that wordpress has configured my domain to use php instead of html. Any pointers
