Has anyone created redundant sites by creating two accounts and replicating between them? I know it's a broad question, but before I get into more detail I want to see if anyone has gone down that path before.

I've heard of things like this being done, but they are usually reserved for sites that have a TON of traffic, like adobe, microsoft, apple, dell, etc. I also do not think the redundant sites are stored at the same placed as the other one.
I've also heard of these sites using two servers for load balancing, which is even smarter, but unfortunately, I only know how to load balance routers and firewalls and switches and things like that. My background has not brought me across the need to load balance or create redunant web servers/sites.

Usually this is doen by using Round Robin DNS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_robin_DNS)
