Installing smf forum... Directory?

Hi all,

The system is asking me what directory I want to install the forum in. What do they mean by that? What is a directory? :confused:

I want it to appear as www.domain.com/forum... Can I do this and still have the forum be the first page people see when they open my site?

When you install SMF from Fantastico, the site will be www.domain.com/smf (Example: www.fungamesuniverse.com/smf)

A directory is simply a folder. There is no difference in the two terms except your preference ... and when explaining something ... using "directory" and "folder" every single time you want to refer to a "directory" or "folder" is annoying.

If you want to install SMF into the "directory" forum, then mention that when installing via Fantastico. If doing a manual install, create the "folder" and upload the files to that folder.

If you want to install the program into a "folder" that is NOT the public_html "directory", and you still want that program to be what people see when they go to your site, then you will have to modify your .htaccess file to redirect to the proper "folder". There are a few posts in here that mention how to do this if you are willing to search for the answer.

Thanks for the response, I managed to get it set up!

Now, the forum title (top left) defaults to the domain name. How do I change that? And how do I add pictures/logos at the top?
