I haven't tried any tests, but I think my initial download speed was hampered by small files.

The server takes some time to switch directories and file names, which slows down the speed drastically.

Here is my test uploading a large file and then download it to see what speed I get.

My maximum upload speed using WSFTP and a 10MB file is little over 600 kbits/s with an average of about 575 kbits/s. So I'm getting my full upload speed from my ISP. I am not getting capped.

Download on same file is: 2.2 Mbits/s which is SCREAMING. I think a T1 connection is 1.5 Mbits/s

Oh yeah, and that was while doing a sustained download from News Groups with a News Reader at the same time.

Conclusion:

I'm getting full up and download speeds.

HM's FTP pipe takes all I can give it.

EXCELLENT SERVICE.

Thanks for testing this out. I was more than a bit skeptical when people said you could only download at dialup modem speeds.

i dont know if its just me but my FTP Uploads and downloads are veryslow it takes me 5 to 10 mins to put a 2.3 MB folder on my account. Is there anyway i can boost performance or something im on a DSL line capped at about 300kb's download speed

If you have Comcast, like I do, they are probably throttling you.

Ok this thread is a bit old, but I'll try. My FTP download speeds from home is around 120 kbps and at work we gat about 500kbps. At home I have Charter residential and at work I have Charter business. Upload and download are the same. I believe Hostmonster is slow on FTP, but that first post (3 years ago) sounded great! Has FTP speed decreased over time at Host monster? Could Charter be throttling down FTP traffic on my residential connection?

Curious, because I want to blame Hostmonster but it might just be Charter.

Thanks, Rich Rubasch, Tilt Media

try a traceroute from home and work and see where the stall might be
