Hi everyone,
I just transfered a website (which is a forum) to hostmonster.
Unfortunately, from day one, the website keeps up and down. The down time lasts from seconds to 5 minutes. Then it comes back to normal. And it happens many times a day, so I've already got some complains from the users.
I tried to contact customer service. Since the problem does not last long, they cannot give a clear answer
Does anyone has the same experience before? Or it's just a recent problem?
Thanks for your reply!

I've had a similar problem only yesterday and I contacted support, they told me they had some Internet issues. The servers were up, but their ISP had problems.

Too bad. The problem is getting worse today. The live chat takes forever to start...:(

My sites where offline like 10 times today for 3 - 5 minutes intervals, I was not able to login to live chat support.
I think it is connection issue, a friend of mine who has also a hostmonster account was having the same problems and his hosting account is not hosted in the same server as me.

It might be they are still be having problems with there ISP.
Not to make your problems seem trivial or whatever but, if a couple of seconds of downtime is more of an annoyance than a major problem. Contacting HostMonster may just be a waste of time. Especially since HostMonster have A LOT of clients and it takes a lot of time to answer any or all questions. Problems like these generally tend to sort them selfs out... With time.
Informing your visitors that you are experiencing problems with your hosting company is about all you can do for now.
A useful link which you may or may not have, http://serverstatus.hostmonster.com/ also the search feature is a brilliant little tool. There's many threads containing questions like this one, with several useful answers.

The weird thing is, when my site was down, my server status ( host213.hostmonster.com ) showed OK.
So I guess it might be the ISP problem.
Anyway, thanks again for the replys.

If you are in the same situation, post here. I'll try to report this to HM.

Calling them is the easiest and fastest way.

I've noticed a similar issue that my website's been down here and there for a couple of minutes (not disturbingly so), but I trust that HostMonster got a hand on the issue and will fix it soon.
My site's down too. More than a couple of minutes! I've seen no communication on this and no recognition that there is a problem.

I've also seen more down time in the last 6 weeks than in the the last 6 months of 2007. I hope it's something they are working on because I've been very happy with HM. I like the new addon domain process, nice and easy.
even this site is affected by this issue there was a 2 min down time a couple of minutes ago.
my site is down, too. it's been for more than 5 min....

I must be the oddball because I'm not noticing any slowing down of my sites (4 total) all hosted with HM. I wish I had more information, but it seems to be intermittent and those are the worst problems to troubleshoot.
I would tend to believe it were ISPs that were the culprit, but with so many people in so many different places, that is hard to swallow.
The only other suggestion I have is for everyone that is experiencing this issue to write down when the outages occur and the duration each one lasts. We can then be more confident in helping Support know when to look for the problem ... of course, it would help if everyone is experiencing this around the same time, for roughly the same duration ...

Same here, no downtime and also no sluggishness.
Probably a stupid question but of those sites affected, are any of you running demanding scripts?

I dont even know what's demanding scripts....
My server is host213.hostmonster.com
Can anyone having the same problem write down your server number?
(type in your domin here: http://serverstatus.hostmonster.com/ )

A demanding script would be a php code/script that isn't properly written/optimised, and other similar things.

It's not that we are running demanding scripts, even html only webpages goes offline.

It doesn't necessarily mean that one of you is using a demanding script, there are hundreds of accounts on one server, and maybe one of them is overloading the server. That happened on my server, one website was overloading it, when they shut is down everything went back to normal.

maybe one of them is overloading the server.
My site is down right now (5AM eastern time in the morning) .
 What kind of overload is that?

It could be that some other user, i.e. account is doing it. It's not that there are only users from the US, so it's not the same time zone everywhere. When it's 5 AM where you are it's peak time somewhere else.

This is one reason why I'm switching over. This sounds like a real bummer. Will I be bumping into the same problem I was having with my other host?
5am downtime? Hmmm...

A little bit slow, maybe. But down? What's with the 99.9% uptime guarantee, then?
If they are hosting a lot of people, then they should well afford the appropriate amount of servers.

In theory, yes. It should be only a bit slow, but if there's a demanding script running and during peak hours it overloads the server then it's up to the administrator to shut down that site. You should contact support and ask them about the problems, I always received accurate answers.

I got a reply from the customer service.
They said if some websites are overloading the server, then the server will be automaticly shut down for a while. They will try to find these sites on my server.
I Don't know if it's really a problem of overload. When my site is down, the server status shows ok.
Anyway,I hope this time it will work..
