Can I upload copyrighted material to my domain for private use?

Can I upload movies that have a copyright to my site if there are no links from my site to these files? Is there a way to prevent everyone else from accessing specific files I have on my site? I can't seem to find good copyright information concerning this.

I am wanting to create a backup for a movie with a copyright and store it on my sites disk space.

Use of the space for backups etc. is prohibited by the Terms of service (i.e. storage should be used for hosting purposes)

Also even if you haven't got any links to it, if the movie is copyright then unless you can prove that you have the copyright owners consent, it would still be illegal to have a backup copy of it. That too would be against the TOS.
