Animated gifs aren't animated

Can anyone suggest why my animated gifs are sticking on the first frame and just show up as a static graphic? They work in all browsers when page is published from the hard drive, but not after ftp upload to site.

It sounds like you may have a web proxy enabled on your internet connection, probably from a router. This may be a proxy used for content filtering or precaching. These types of proxies cause animated .gifs to be cached as a static image and are delivered to your browser as such.

Turns out it was due to my dial-up accelerator setting.

That is a type of precaching proxy. I don't fully understand how the proxies store data, so I can't really say why animated gifs are affected by them -- only that they are. :)
