sorry how do you mean. I am very new to all this.

I just simply publish through my website builder called NVU but when it comes to publishing my gifs it just carries on saying publishing but won't actually publish them

Well, I use Dreamweaver for the simple stuff. If you want more advanced stuff, try a content management system like Joomla!. Plenty of interesting add-ons! The learning curve is quite steep though, especially you want to customise your own look.

I don't recommend publishing using Nvu. Just save your files and use an FTP programme to upload them onto the server instead. There's a good and free FTP programme called Filezilla. Just google for it.

yeah filezilla is good but why am I still having problems with my .gifs? The .gifs don't show even when I upload my save page using filezilla.

Do you know why this is?

Did you make an animated gif? Try making the animated gif with another program and see if you have the same problem. I made some with Adobe ImageReady and never had a problem.

Its a bv.gif. It just will not publish. grrrrr. It does not publish the same as an image.gif for some reason.

When it tries to publish it says can not change directory of bv. gif

Hi, I also had the same trouble using Dreamweaver. I was able to create my website [U]www.vacationintahoe.info using the File Wizard located at the bottom of hostmonster's control panel. It was confusing at first, but after many hours and cups of coffee, I acheived a decent looking site. Of course, it could do with improvement, but at least now after having used the file wizard, I have more of an understanding. Good Luck.

I use the MS Frontpage WYSIWYG editor to get a basic layout, then switch to the HTML code editor to fine-tune. For quick edits, notepad works great.

I like to use dreamweaver when I'm building the basic layout of a site. After that, I stick it into TYPO3 or whatever content management system the project calls for. For quick edits, nothing beats logging in via SSH and editing with vi.

Edlin? MS-DOS, ugh... I rather prefer QED :p

And for the GIFs, the magnetic tape method is good, but it's even better to go directly to the server and switch the valves by hand bit per bit until you get the desired image :p

Magnetic tape? Switching valves? That's oldschool.

I think it's time for you guys to upgrade.

I'm glad you're protecting your valuable file on that floppy by removing the write enable tab. Can you get a whole 350KB on that thing?

I use FP 2003.. yes yes.. I know you guys probably don't like it.. I love it since I only use it to format text etc... nothing over done
