View Full Version : Can I delete contents of public_html folder?
I am a new user and I just went into my public_html folder for the first time. I see that there are various items located in there. I think that I have to leave the CGI Bin, but can I delete the other stuff?

If you don't know what each of those files does, I would strongly suggest leaving them all where they are. Most of them serve a particular purpose. The public_html site is where all the files and folders that make up your website are located. The files that are in there are used to make sure you have the functionality you need.

While I agree with shadmego, I should advise you that if you do delete everything in your public_html, it's not the end of the world. The important files will regenerate themselves.

My experience has been that of having to send in support tickets to have the admins reinstall the lost files. One amoung many reasons I had to move our church here. I think the support is incredible.

If you're not sure what it is...
you can always create a folder called "moved" or the like. Then you can move what you don't want there. Now you can put your own files under public_html. If you decide you want one of the moved files, you can always move it back and all was not lost.

I just started here and I am realy impressed so far. It's cool that I can call Tec on a Saturday and get live service, and no waiting!:)
Here is my site, it is still basic, but I kind of want to keep it "dumbed down" for visiters who don't have good conections, or well updated browsers. I will take any advise I can get.

Use meta tags to help you along. Put them in the <head> section of the pages.
Example
<meta name="keywords" content="graf, refrigeration, dane, county" />
Just add in all the keywords you can think of. You might also want to consider generating a sitemap for Google and submitting it.
