Default [Resolved] Sending mail from blog after configuring Google Apps

About a month or so ago I was successfully able to configure Google Apps to handle my website's e-mails. Accounts can send and receive mail just fine.

The only problem lies in mail being sent from my website's Wordpress blog. For example, instead of a contact form sending an e-mail to abc@mydomain.com that is working with Google Apps, it sends it to my web space's Squirrel Mail account. It is a good thing I did not delete these accounts from within cPanel after migrating to Google Apps or else I would have never seen those e-mails.

Is there a setting that I need to activate/deactivate from within my Hostmonster account in order to get mail sent from website scripts to their remote Google Apps accounts?

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

I believe you are going to have to change the Wordpress script to point to the new mail servers to send the emails to/from the proper accounts.

I'm just not convinced I'm correct so you might want to verify what I've suggested.

Thanks for the welcome and response, 'shadmego'!

I'm not sure what I should be editing in Wordpress, but I do believe that PHP Mail is the default that is executed for most contact scripts.

I did come across the XPertMailer plugin for Wordpress in which you can specify to use SMTP, but here again I do not know the details of what I should be doing. I tried using Google's SMTP server (smtp.google.com) and the username (abc@mydomain.com), etc., but this does not work.

On the cPanel forum the following was recommended for someone in a similar situation:

    REMOVE the domain from /etc/localdomains
ADD the domain to /etc/remotedomains (if it isn't already in there)
I do not know how to do this. Sounds like something Hostmonster would have to do for me. Any ideas?

I tried registering with my blog using my private Hotmail e-mail address and surprisingly, username and password information is sent out.

The problem seems to be with the Wordpress sending e-mails to addresses within its own domain.

You will have to figure out that the SMTP settings are for Google and use those instead of your HM mail server settings. I don't know exactly what to tell you from here as I'm not that familiar with WordPress.

You'll might find the email is going to your local email address because the email users are still defined locally. (i.e. the SMTP server may be looking locally and seeing there is a user with the correct address and therefore not sending it out to the MX Server)

I'd try removing one of them and then try having an email sent.

(Oh and I'm assuming you've correctly set the MX records on your DNS record)

Thanks for the recommendation, 'r2b2', but even after deleting the local server's e-mail accounts, I still was not receiving mail at the remote Google Apps accounts. However, I was still able to solve the problem!

Everything is working just fine now. Turned out I did not need to edit any SMTP settings as I was starting to believe.

The culprit of this whole problem was a little option that was activated in the MX Settings of cPanel. After setting the MX Entries I entered as instructed by Google Apps I should have disabled "Always accept mail locally even if the primary MX does not point to this server."

Mail is now being sent by Wordpress. Hooray!

    Thanks for all your help!

Sure are! Actually, I do not recall the instructions from Google Apps setup ever mentioning that this option be disabled. It was really a shot in the dark that happened to be the solution!

    Unhappy

I am having this exact same problem and I have done EXTENSIVE research to try and resolve it. Please, I'm begging...someone help me out.

I've installed several plugins and set them up correctly, I've made sure my settings were correct in Google Apps, WordPress, and Hostmonster. None of the changes are working and I've tried various configurations. Everyone that I've seen posting has similar issues but it's never exactly the same as mine because they all get it resolved before I can see how.

Is there something about the Hostmonster account that could be blocking SMTP mail through WordPress?
